Jasper has been watching the Olympics with us this week (a special exception to our normal limits on television). Gus hasn't been that into it overall (in fact, he sometimes shouts, "TURN the Olympics OFF!").
Jasper's favorite event to date has been the snowboarding half pipe. He really likes Shawn White, who Jasper refers to primarily by his nickname, as in, "When i watched the flying tomato on his snowboard..."
So, the other day Jasper built himself a 'course' in the back yard in the melting snow, and proceeded to take his sled down a tiny hill. Adam and I were momentarily worried that this might be dangerous, but then remembered which child we were dealing with.
Today at breakfast, in a conversation with his Uncle Justin, Jasper decided on what his eventual nickname will be when he, too, is a famous snowboarder. He will, of course, be named after the color of his hair, and he eventually settled on, "The Flying Belgian Waffle." He explains, "When I makes my jumps, they will shout, 'THE FLYING BELGIAN WAFFLE!!!' "
How great that Uncle Justin could be there to help pick Jasper's olympic nickname. We'll be sure to be there in the crowd cheering him on. Uncle Justin can be the one to take him to the orthopedic surgeon, because he has more experience with that than anyone else in the family.
