We moved from Seattle to DC about 6 months ago (in September). In all of that time, Jasper has never complained about moving, or really brought up missing his friends - until about two weeks ago. Suddenly he realized that this wasn't just some kooky extended vacation, and he's brought it up - repeatedly.
Most poignantly, when I was breaking down the recycling, he asked me why I was getting rid of the boxes, "Because we'll need those boxes for our stuff, when we move back to Seattle."
He's also suggested that he'll live at Anna and Sylvia and Beth's house when we get back to Seattle, (he seems to have forgotten about Leander) and broken down in tears about how things were better in Seattle.
The other day when I was cutting some rosemary up, he explained that, "when we live in Seattle, I'll feed rosemary to Sylvia. That's what I used to do!"
All this, after 5 months without any real mention of Seattle!
