Jasper loves the movie Cars. And his favorite character is the lead guy, Lightning McQueen (LM from now on). In fact, Jasper refers to himself as LM these days, and I am Sally (the girl car). Jasper loves LM SOOOO much that when it is bed time and he and Gus are trying to go to sleep in the same room together, the major incentive for Jasper to stay in his bed is the threat of giving LM a time out for a whole day.
A few weeks ago, we discussed the possibility of buying some more TOY cars from the movie cars. He was so excited about the mere possibility that for days he asked me to tell him stories about getting toy cars from the movie.
Last night when Jasper went to bed I told him that if he stayed in his bed tonight, not only would LM NOT get a timeout, but we'd have a toy Sally for him (a die-cast little car toy). He IMMEDIATELY went to bed.
The first thing he said to me this morning (literally the FIRST words out of his mouth) was "do you have a toy Sally for me?"
Pretty much he's spent the entire day (when not in preschool or napping or eating), rolling about playing with his new toy cars.
When I got home today, he looked up at me and smiled, and said, "Thank you, Sally! Thank you for the cars!!" (Remember, I'm Sally the car these days. Prior to this I was Tracy, from JJ the Jet Plane, and before that I was Wendy from Bob the Builder. This is pretty much the name he uses for me 99% of the time. It's difficult to keep track.)
Tonight it's been super hot, so I suggested to Jasper that he come outside. But he looked up at me and asked if he could bring his toy cars out (the rule is that he has to keep them inside, so that they don't get lost). He'd rather stay in the house where it's SOOO hot than leave his cars behind!
