The other day I asked Jasper, "Are you a silly goose, or a wild man?" And he responded, laughing, "A silly goose!" I then turned to Gus and asked him the same question, and he grinned, "A wild man!" (Except that it sounded like "a why maa")
Today on the way home, as we listened to NPR, Jasper asked me, "Mommy, what is squabbling?" (Apparently they had just used this word to describe some partisan bickering in Congress...) Last night Yom Kippur inspired, "Daddy, what is God?" a question that Adam managed to duck entirely.
Gus is learning to count. If you say "I'm going to count to three. One..." He jumps in with "two...twee!!" If you're counting past three, he'll jump in with an occasional number at the appropriate point - he gets ten, usually.
Gus is also talking a ton more, you can ask him a fairly complex question and he'll respond clearly with yes or no. And he'll get your attention, "Mama, mama," and then once you look at him he'll say "milk please." (Except that it sounds like "mii peees")
Sadly, although Gus seems to speak in very complex sentences much of the time, our ability to comprehend him is still pretty poor. There are a number of conversations that go like this - Gus: "Blah gah me oh foo yeah!" Me: "Hmmm..." Gus: "Blah gah me oh foo yeah!!!!" etc. Me: "Would you like some milk? Or a toy? Or a walk in the park?"
Last night was Yom Kippur and we sang blessings over the wine and bread. This morning at breakfast, Adam handed Jasper a bowl of Cheerios and banana, and Jasper asked, "Sing a Jewish song about the banana!"
