A few milestones that Jasper has achieved recently:
- He started walking (without holding on) last Saturday - he took 4-5 steps
in a row, 5 times throughout the day. We were so excited. The next day, though, he immediately decided that walking independently was perhaps something that he really didn't need to do. Since then, he's taken a couple of steps every day, but usually just 2 or 3, then he notices what's going on, immediately grabs the nearest stable object and/or sits down.
- Today while he was in the bath we were identifying body parts. He has learned eye in Spanish, so when you say "donde esta l'ojo" he points to his eye, he also points down and says "pee-pee", and he's familiar with Knee, Foot, and a few others.
Today when I said "Bellybutton," he pointed to his belly button and said "Baby", which was, to be honest, a brilliant act of child logic. Every day I show him my belly and tell him there is a baby inside. Usually when we're talking about the baby inside my tummy, we also discuss the other tummy features, such as the belly button, so it makes perfect sense that he would connect these. Of course, I'm not quite sure if he thinks that there is a baby in HIS tummy, or just that we also use the word baby to refer to belly buttons more generally!
- Jasper has also been talking like crazy these days. He has learned many one and two syllable words such as "cupcake" and "outside" and "open." He likes to say "Fish", and "Kitty", and "Dog." He also does a number of animal sounds, including meow, quack, and he pants like a dog when he sees a dog. He's also started to use baby signs more actively - he regularly uses the sign for "more" and "please".
In addition to the words that he really knows, he really enjoys mimicking us these days. Today Adam said that he was going to put him in a short sleeve shirt, and Jasper busts out with "sho slee shir".
