This week has been very exciting for all of us. Jasper has had several visitors, including his grandma from Connecticut (Adam's mom). We all had a lovely visit, and, amazingly, Sarah and Adam went out for dinner one night (without Jasper). It was quite remarkable!
Jasper also got his very first trip to the emergency room when he grabbed (who knew he could grab??) the cup of coffee in front of Sarah at the local coffee shop and spilled hot coffee all over both of them. Sarah, in a mad panic, concerned he was burned, immediately put his little legs under the cold water tap in the bathroom (which, as it turns out, enraged poor Jasper even further). Unsure of how badly he was burned, 911 was called, several firemen conferred, agreed he was burned, called for an ambulance, the ambulance came and took us all away to the emergency room. By the time we got into the ambulance, Jasper had calmed (perhaps because he was no longer immersed in icy-cold water?), and by the time we arrived at the hospital, his legs weren't really very red any more. An hour later, when the burn specialist finally stopped by, Jasper was asleep, apparently unharmed, and we were all sent home with a diagnosis of "mild skin irritation due to coffee spill."
Thanks to quick-thinking by Adam's mom, we had Jasper's car seat (and our car) at the hospital. Unfortunately, though, Jasper had no clothes! (His original outfit being soaked in coffee and then water.) We wrapped him in our blanket and then put a hospital blanket over that. When we got home, he continued to sleep in his car seat for some time, but managed to kick most of the blankets out. Check out the picture of the cute little half-naked sleeping guy!
Today when we went by the same local coffee shop for a latte, the latte was only lukewarm at best. Apparently they've started making them VERY tepid thanks to our little incident!
Other Jasper developments include the fact that he has begun to master the art of keeping his hand in his mouth. This often requires that he use the second hand to sort of prop up the one that's in his mouth in order to keep everything in place.
