Jasper sucks. Big time. And when he can't suck, he gets fussy. So he spends a lot of time with a pacifier, and every now and then his hand brushes past his mouth, a tantalizing taste of things to come. This week he's been getting much better with his hands, both batting at toys, and moving ever closer to the holy grail of hand-in-mouth sucking. Watch him practice in the video at the end of this post. But first, some new pix this week, including his best smile yet:
Today we went to the reunion for our childbirth class. It was so much fun - instead of a bunch of pregnant women and their partners, there were a dozen babies and their parents. All of the babies were so great. The best was when we set them all up on the couch together for a group photo!
--Smiling a lot --smiled for 2 solid minutes at us when he woke up this morning --dancing--he lies on his Gymini mat, we play music (currently REM's Out of Time), and he wiggles his legs and waves his arms --talking--ok, not whole sentences but lots of little noises that aren't crying, more like little coos. --sleeping
for seven (7) hours in a row--he's had his Long Sleep last for 7 hours
three times in the past week. Of course, one night in the middle of
that streak he accidentally started his long sleep at 5pm and was done
by 11:30, and up hourly after that. But still, he's definitely on the
right track! --staying awake on a walk, just lying in his stroller and looking around quietly at all the sights. --enjoying
his mobile--lying in his crib, looking up at the fantastic new mobile
he got, listening to the classical music, and enjoying life. (The
mobile has little umbrellas over each object, and the underside of each
umbrella is a black spiral on a white background, so it's possible he's
actually being hypnotized as those swirl around. But hey, we can worry
about mental development later, right?)
